Deep Dive Division is deeply committed to a kaitiakitanga salvage initiative known as Beyond the Surface. This project arose from the team’s observations of vehicles and hazardous debris accumulating on the riverbed, which were compromising the health of the water and native species. Since 2022, the team has successfully removed 20 vehicles, 1 truck, 5 motorbikes, 28 e-scooters, whiteware, gaming machines, railway sleepers, tools, and 33 tonnes of metal debris from the Waikato River. The project is ongoing, with the goal of clearing all vehicles and hazardous materials from Lake Taupo to Tuakau, reflecting a dedicated pledge to restore and protect the environment for future generations.
